Whitley County Health Department (WCHD) is located on the southeastern border of Kentucky, and the county has a significantly higher opioid death rate than the state and national rates. WCHD used RROE funding to train 10 community members to support training on adverse childhood experiences and resiliency; create and distribute 129 “leave behind” kits for local police, sheriff, and EMS agencies and purchase supplies for future distribution; purchase and place 3 NaloxBoxes across the county; and provide naloxone to individuals being released from the jail, with 79 percent of individuals receiving naloxone upon release from March 2022 to February 2023.
